The Punk Pan-Indian Romantic Comedy
The Punk Pan-Indian Romantic Comedy is a music-themed talk and performance piece by Indigenous artist and activist Gregg Deal. This new work focuses on the music that has moved him throughout his life, speaking in stories and antidotes that follow a timeline of struggle, survival, and ultimately healing through the power of music. A work that is upsetting, dramatic and at times pretty funny outlines the way music has affected Deal’s life from his earliest memories to the present and how it has influenced his ideas, his artistic work and his voice.

Film Screenings
20th Anniversary screening of Burn to Shine: Atlanta with curator Lee Tesche
In 2007, Dead Pioneers’ Lee Tesche joined Fugazi’s Brendan Canty and filmmaker Christoph Green to capture a pivotal moment in Atlanta’s music scene, gathering artists for one day of performances inside a house slated for demolition. The film features early performances by Deerhunter, The Coathangers, The Black Lips, and Mastodon, as well as the final performance of legendary soul singer The Mighty Hannibal.

The Last American Indian On Earth
The Last American Indian On Earth (TLAIOE) is Gregg Deal's first performance art piece. Performed in public, it very much became about perception, invisibility, representation, stereotype, and the politics of these things in the public sphere. TLAIOE was performed from 2013 to 2014 amidst a national discussion about Indigenous stereotypes, particularly through sports mascots and cultural appropriation. While gaining ground in this work Nationally, TLAIOE came to an abrupt end while traversing this very issue within the small team helping to document and make this happen. While paramount to Deal's work, it serves as a cautionary tale to the effort of proper Indigenous representation, allowing Indigenous people to tell their own stories, and recognizing who can be trusted and who can not.
